Chapter Eleven

#xa0;

The air around him smelled artificially clean. From somewhere in the fog, a low hum sounded twice then a beep. An alien-esque voice called for a Dr. Fa followed by hurrying footsteps. Frank groaned and tried sitting up but the pain in his shoulder knocked him back. He frowned and opened his eyes to see Sung-Go sleeping in a chair beside his bed.

When he looked down, Sung-Go was holding his hand. Frank smiled and lifted that hand to his lips. Though he was remembering the horror of the night before, he couldn’t help feeling loved and cherished knowing Sung-Go had stayed.

“You should be resting,” Sung-Go said without opening his eyes. “How are you doing?”

“A little better. My arm still hurts but breaking a bone will do that to you.”

Sung-Go gave him a small smile and sat up with a groan. “Andy called for you. He was worried.”

“Do you have my phone?”

“No. Jun Ti has it. She will let Andy know once he calls back.”

Frank sighed but nodded. He stared at Sung-Go silently for a moment before clearing his throat then pushing to sit up. “Sung-Go?”

“Hmm?”

“You know Andy and I are just friends—right?”

“Yes.”

“And that if you and I were to—well, become serious—not that I think that’s what you want because you never promised me anything and I don’t want to assume that you would want things to be dragged into a—”

Sung-Go clamped his mouth over Frank’s. Frank’s eyes widened at first, especially when Sung-Go’s tongue plunged into his mouth. Then, Frank moaned, wrapped his good arm around Sung-Go’s neck and fell into the kiss.

“Anyone ever told you you talk too much?” Sung-Go asked when he pulled back.

“I wanted to make things clear.”

“Mission accomplished,” Sung-Go whispered, taking another searing kiss. “I am aware of your relationship with Andy, Frank. Do not worry so.”

“Do you know when I can go home?”

“Right after they figure out if your brain is okay. The results should be ready any time now.”

“Okay.”

A nurse entered then. Her smile was infectious and that made Frank grin. Sung-Go didn’t leave. He stood out of the way, arms folded across his chest like a guardian angel. The nurse began cleaning his wounds, re-bandaging his arm and ribs along with some other checks. Each time the nurse poked somewhere tender and Frank made a face, he noticed Sung-Go inch closer and closer.

“Your swellings are going down nicely,” the nurse said. “If your tests come back clean then you should be able to go home soon, but I will let the doctor tell you that.” She winked at him.

Frank laughed. “Thank you.”

“You are welcome. You deserve some good news, Dunn-Ssi. You have had one hell of a night. The doctor will be in shortly.”

After she left, Sung-Go sat beside the bed once more. “You will not be going home.”

“Sung-Go.”

“I have plenty of space at my place,” Sung-Go said. “You will go home with me.”

“I’m not a child, Sung-Go. I’ve been through worse than this and I’m still standing.”

“Do you not get that I am worried?” Sung-Go thundered.
